Our Colosseum week: what we shipped and what we cut
A redesign, new roles, and the most useful feedback we've had so far: less text.

Our Colosseum week: what we shipped and what we cut
A hackathon is the week your product gets seen by people who have never heard of you. For us, it's the most useful week there is: everything that felt obvious suddenly has to be explained from scratch.
This week Worqen is competing in Colosseum with Superteam Brasil.
Here's what we got done.
A new design
We rebuilt the interface. The biggest change doesn't show in a screenshot, but you feel it when you use it: the product is now built around what you're doing right now, not around what you signed up as.
Hiring and Working instead of Employer and Employee
Our users often do both: today they hire a designer, tomorrow they take on a project themselves. Splitting people into "employers" and "employees" just wasn't true.
Worqen now has two modes: Hiring and Working. You switch with one click. One mode holds your jobs, proposals and payments as the one hiring; the other holds finding work and getting paid as the one doing it. The mechanics stay the same: payment is locked until each stage is delivered, the person doing the work keeps 100%, and the fee is paid by whoever hires.
The feedback that stung the most: less text
At a Pitch Deck & Pitching session run by Superteam Brasil, we showed our deck to Josip Volarević. The verdict was short: less text, fewer slides.
He was right. When you live inside your product every day, you want to show every mechanic and every decision. But a deck isn't supposed to explain everything. It's supposed to make someone want the next conversation.
We rebuilt the deck from scratch: eight slides instead of a wall of text, with the rest in an appendix for anyone who wants to dig deeper.
Where we are now
There are 655 users on the platform, with 45 joining in the last week. All-time, that's 29 hires and 37 payouts totaling $5.0k. There has been one dispute in total.
